WHERE IS CURACAO?

Curacao is an island in the Southern Caribbean Sea, off the coast of Venezuela. Curacao is one of five island territories of the Netherlands Antilles, which is part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Of the coast of Curacao lies a small uninhabited island of Klein Curacao, meaning Little Curacao.

The origin of the name is debated. But the most popular belief is that it is derived from the word ÒcoracaoÓ meaning heart in Portugues, because of the island heart like shape.

The island is about 64 km from north to south long, with approximately 140 thousand inhabitants, who comes from many ethnic backgrounds. Most inhabitants speaks 4 languages, Papiamento, Dutch, English and Spanish.
